2012 Honda CR-Z Mugen - MUGEN Euro and Honda (UK) have pronounced the first official photos of the CR-Z MUGEN, the higher-performance hybrid coupe which will make its world debut at Goodwood festival in July. CR-Z hybrid will use a supercharger to give over 50% more torque and power from the Honda’s petrol-electric drivetrain.
First test with a prototype car based on a standard CR-Z and a mid-tune engine has given 0-60mph times around that of the Civic Type R. After a further 15 per cent rise up in power over this ’stage 1′ engine and with over 50kg decreased from the chassis, overall performance is set to meet MUGEN’s original targets.
The tuned version of the CR-Z hybrid coupe is desiderated to produce around 200PS, and 181lb.ft of torque, with significantly increased performance throughout the rev range. The car maintains the Honda IMA electric motor and the original 1.5-litre i-VTEC petrol machine, which has been rebuilt to MUGEN specification with reserved upgraded and strengthened internal components.
In addition to improvements under the bonnet, MUGEN also educe the chassis dynamics, with 5-step adjustable dampers set front and rear, a raise in track width and a large reduction in overall weight. Bigger brake discs and 4-pot monobloc callipers help stop the more powerful car, while 17-inch forged alloy MUGEN GP wheels decrease unsprung mass.
Elsewhere, the CR-Z gets some cosmetic additions in the form of MUGEN body parts, covering front and rear under spoilers, side skirts and a rear wing.
